Volunteer

Volunteers play such an invaluable role in our schools and we are incredibly grateful for the time, care, and support our volunteers provide.

Updated California laws and board policy require volunteers who work regularly with students to complete Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting training and obtain fingerprint clearance. These requirements support student safety and ensure volunteers are appropriately trained and screened. While these requirements are established by state law, we are committed to making the volunteer clearance process as simple, efficient, and user-friendly as possible. To this end, this year we are utilizing the online Raptor Volunteer Management System where you can find all the required information, enter your information, access and upload required documents, and track your progress towards clearance. Volunteers may continue helping in classrooms through September 30th and by that date should have completed all requirements.

Becoming a general volunteer requires signing up on our portal that runs a check through the Megan’s Law database and the completion of documentation and training required by the State of California. There are two levels of requirements depending on whether you want to volunteer at a school or want to volunteer and drive on a field trip. Additionally, school employees who would like to volunteer or drive on field trips have separate categories to choose from in the portal.

Gather your paperwork before starting the application, as you cannot save and come back. All required documents are available in this message. You can find these documents available in your child’s school office, as well. (No need to bring forms to school TB/fingerprint clinics.

It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government issued identification card including your full legal name. It is important that you provide a valid email address so you can be notified as to the status of your application and for future communication. All information collected on the application will remain confidential and not be shared outside the volunteer program.

Fingerprinting: You must use the OAUSD LiveScan Fingerprint Form provided by the District that includes a specific number allowing the results to be reported back to our Human Resources Department. The form includes Ameriprint locations. However, you can go to any LiveScan Service Operator that is convenient for you.

If you bring the linked District Live Scan form to any Ameriprints location, your fingerprints are free. If you bring the District Live Scan form to another fingerprinting location, the District will pay the Department of Justice fees. However, the location fees will be the responsibility of the volunteer and must be paid at the time of your visit. You can also attend one of our free TB/Fingerprinting Clinics: schedule HERE.

  All fingerprint information goes directly to the Human Resources Department. Results are confidential and do not go to the school office. After fingerprinting clearance is given, the fingerprinting documents are destroyed and not held by the District. 

TB Clearance: Please note that most volunteers do not require a TB “test” and instead qualify for the TB Risk Assessment Form to be reviewed with your doctor or at one of our school TB Risk Assessment clinic sessions.

If you attend one of our free fingerprinting/ TB clinics, you do not need to bring forms. All necessary forms will be provided at the clinic.
