New Counselors

New Counselors (1st Year)

We are stoked that you would like to join our Program for Camp 2025!

The OAUSD 6th Grade Outdoor Education Camp is a long-standing tradition that provides an exciting and memorable week for students as they celebrate the end of elementary school. As a first-year counselor, you’ll step into an essential role, guiding campers through activities like hikes, games, and team-building exercises while helping them adjust to being away from home. You’ll build strong connections with campers and fellow counselors, all while embracing the outdoors and creating lifelong memories. Being a counselor is a rewarding experience where you’ll have fun, grow as a leader, and make a meaningful impact on the campers’ lives.

All Counselors must complete camp paperwork assigned by Camp Directors before Camp Training and participating in the Camp Program. Paperwork includes a two google forms, one being a pledge, the other being a paperwork submission google form. If you have questions or do not have access to a printer, please email us at adobecamp6@gmail.com.

2025 Paperwork will be posted here following Counselor Interviews!

Role of a Counselor

As a counselor at camp, your primary responsibility is to support and guide your cabin group and day group campers throughout the week. From helping them with meals, hikes, and daily routines like bathing, to cheering them on during activities, you play a vital role in ensuring they have the best experience possible. For many campers, this is their first time away from home for an entire week, and they will look up to you as a role model, leader, and trusted friend. Your enthusiasm, care, and leadership are what make camp an unforgettable adventure for these 6th graders

Interviews

Becoming a camp counselor starts with an interview! Our interview process is fun, engaging, and designed to help us get to know you better. In a group setting, we’ll ask a mix of lighthearted and thoughtful questions to see if you’re a great fit for the role. We encourage you to come prepared, well-dressed, and ready to share what makes you unique. This is your chance to show us your enthusiasm and why you’d make an amazing addition to our camp family!

Pre-Camp Training

Before we embark on an incredible week at Camp Royaneh, all counselors—both new and returning—gather for Pre-Camp Training. This session is designed to help everyone prepare for the week ahead by playing icebreaker games, building connections, and creating camp signage. We’ll also cover essential topics like the Independent Study timeline for high school counselors and review any updates or changes for the upcoming year. This training is an important step in ensuring our camp runs smoothly and that every counselor feels confident and ready to make the week unforgettable for our 6th graders.

Week of Camp Expectations

As a counselor, your top priority is to look after the well-being of our campers and fellow staff while creating a positive and memorable experience for everyone at camp. Enthusiasm, leadership, and a commitment to making lasting memories are key to your role.

All first-year counselors will ride the counselor bus to camp, arriving on Friday, April 25th, the day before the campers. During this time, we’ll work together to prepare the camp by setting up cabins, tent sites, and other facilities for the week ahead. This day is also an opportunity to go over important information, familiarize yourself with the camp, and most importantly, start building bonds with your fellow counselors and staff before we kick off "the best week of the year!"
