High School Counselor Expectations

Counselor Participation Standards

It is an honor and a privilege to participate in the annual 6th Grade Camp hosted by the Old Adobe Union School District. It is imperative that students and families understand the importance of positively representing Casa Grande High School and Petaluma High School while providing this vital service to our community.

Participation will be determined based on the following pillars:

  • Behavioral Standing: No suspensions during the current school year. (Any prior school year suspensions will require additional review)

  • Academic Performance: No current grades of "D" or "F" in Aeries at the time of paperwork completion and the Counselor Approval Period (Early February).

  • Attendance & Discipline: No more than 6 unserved attendance detentions (Tardies/Absences). All discipline-related detentions must be served in full.

1. Mandatory High School Camp Coursework

Camp Coursework is required for all high school counselors. Although Independent Study is currently not offered by Petaluma City Schools, gathering and completing coursework at camp allows you to stay caught up on schoolwork while volunteering.

  • Sign-Off Form: Download the "Counselor Sign-Off Form" (part of Counselor Paperwork Step 7). This must be signed by your teachers and school to prove your eligibility.

  • Submission: If you are a NEW Counselor, bring the completed form with you to Counselor Training on March 27th at 4:00 PM. Returners must email a clear picture of the completed form to adobecamp6@gmail.com by March 27th at 8pm.

  • Note: Camp Principals work directly with high schools to perform final grade and discipline checks prior to camp.

2. Gather Camp Coursework

Please inform your teachers ASAP that you will be attending the OAUSD 6th Grade Camp the week of April 27th and that you will need coursework in advance so you do not fall behind.

  • Make a Plan: Discuss your attendance with teachers, request coursework to complete while at camp, and determine a date you can collect that work from them.

  • Monitoring: OAUSD Camp Administrators will not monitor coursework completion, as Independent Study is not offered. However, it is strongly recommended that you come to camp prepared to work during Power Hour.

3. Camp "Power Hour"

We provide one hour of mandatory study time each night at camp.

  • Pro Tip: We highly encourage completing your work before camp if at all possible. If your coursework is complete, or you have none, you will be excused from Power Hour.

  • WiFi Notice: WiFi is limited. Please do your best to complete all internet-dependent assignments before arriving at camp.
