• A picture of Principal Michele Gochberg playing on Wheel of Fortune! My name is Michele Gochberg, and I feel fortunate to be the Principal of Sonoma Mountain Elementary Charter School. This is an amazing school, and in my time here, I have worked collaboratively with our dedicated community of staff, students, and parents to deepen our charter focus in the arts and music, ensure a rigorous academic foundation for all students, and instill a sense of school pride and tremendous spirit.

My journey as an educator started at a very young age when I played "school" and aspired to be just like my teachers and make a lasting impact on students as they had made on me. After obtaining my BA in Liberal Studies at CSU Sacramento and my Multiple Subject Credential from Dominican University, I began my teaching career in sixth grade at Bernard Eldredge Elementary School, right here in the Old Adobe Union School District. I loved everything about sixth grade - I enjoyed building a classroom community of learners who took risks, cared for each other, loved learning, and were well prepared academically and emotionally for junior high and life. After eight years in sixth grade, I moved to Miwok Elementary to teach second and third grade. I enjoyed working with younger children, especially in the areas of literacy, but missed sixth graders, so I was fortunate to work at La Tercera Elementary and return to sixth grade. In my fifteen years of teaching, I can proudly say that my greatest accomplishments are my students. I am honored that I still stay in contact with many of them, and I am very proud of the people that they have all become.

My leadership path began while I was teaching, as I enjoyed being involved at the school, district, and community levels. I took on a number of leadership positions including Summer School Principal, various union leadership positions, Casa Grande High School Cross Country Assistant Coach, teacher support provider, and Sixth Grade Camp Navarro Co-Director. All of these experiences led me to continue my education at Sonoma State University where I received my Administrative Credential and Masters of Education in Special Education.

After fifteen years of teaching, I left the classroom to serve as a Curriculum Resource Teacher and Coach for the Old Adobe Union School District. During that time, I was placed as an interim principal at Sonoma Mountain Elementary Charter School and was lucky to become the permanent principal in March of 2013.

My husband and I have two young daughters, Isabella and Liliana. Our lives are enriched with a lot of love and laughter, and we love to play outside, travel (lots of day trips), read books, and spend time with our extended family. Besides the joys of family life, I also enjoy running, going to concerts, boating, and wakeboarding.
