Guidance for Holiday Travel & Gatherings

On November 9th, 2020, Public Health Officers from the counties of Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Mateo, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz, and the city of Berkeley have issued joint recommendations for staying safe during the holidays. The recommendations cover gatherings and travel, with recommended steps to reduce risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The joint recommendations advise that in-person gatherings be small (no more than three households), short, stable and outdoors. Also, holiday travel is not recommended because travel outside the Bay Area will increase chances of infection and potentially spread the virus. For those who are traveling, there are tips for travelers to help avoid catching COVID-19 or spreading it to fellow travelers. Those traveling outside the Bay Area are strongly recommended to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return and consider being tested for COVID-19 before and after the gathering.

Cases are rising throughout the country so it is more important than ever to practice the precautions of wearing a face covering, washing hands frequently, using hand sanitizer often and maintaining a minimum of six feet from others.

With hope on the horizon and vaccines on the way, please celebrate safely this holiday season and protect yourself and your family by wearing masks and reducing close contact with those who are not in your household. By doing this we can reduce the spread, bring down the curve and get back to school and work.
